Roses for Men: Why Flowers Are for Guys, Too

According to a recent survey, more than 80% of men buy flowers for their partners on Valentine’s Day. The vast majority of men choose flowers over other gift ideas like chocolate and jewelry.

But the same study showed that most women do not choose to buy flowers for their partners on Valentine’s Day. Instead, they often decide to go with gifts like chocolate, weekend getaways, and clothing.

That could all change soon, though. Over the course of the last few years, some women have started to experiment with buying roses for men on Valentine’s Day and at other times of the year. And many men have responded positively to getting flowers as gifts.

They’re Different

If you started dating a man a few weeks ago, you might not have too much trouble thinking up gift ideas for him when holidays come around. But if you’ve been dating a man for months now—or if you’ve been married to a man for years—it’s not always easy to come up with fresh gift ideas.

When buying a gift for a man, most women choose to go with things like:

  • Cologne
  • Watches
  • Shaving kits
  • Ties
  • Wallets

But once you’ve been with a man for a while, he will have received all of these things from you. It’ll cause you to struggle when trying to think of what else you can buy him.

That’s where roses for men will come in. When you give a man flowers, you’ll be giving him something that he’s never received from you before. In fact, you’ll likely be giving him something that he’s likely never received from anyone before.

This is a big part of what makes flowers for guys so special. They’ll give you an opportunity to give a man something that’s different than what he usually gets as a gift.

They Serve as a Surprise

Do you try and surprise your guy every time you get him a gift? There are a lot of people who love to see the look on their partner’s face when they buy them something that they’re not expecting.

As we mentioned a moment ago, buying roses for men isn’t something that women do every day. Some of them don’t ever get around to getting the special guy in their life a bouquet of flowers.

As a result, you can pretty much guarantee that a guy is going to be surprised when you purchase flowers for them as a gift. You’ll get the reaction that you were going for when they see that flowers have arrived for them at their home or office.

They Work Well for Almost Any Occasion

When you think about giving flowers to someone as a gift, you probably think about doing it on Valentine’s Day. Americans spend more than $2 billion on flowers alone when purchasing gifts for their significant others on Valentine’s Day.

But it’s worth noting that there are so many other times throughout the year when you can buy flowers for guys. You don’t have to limit yourself to only considering flowers on Valentine’s Day.

For example, you can pick up a bouquet of flowers for the man in your life for their birthday. If you share children with him, you can also scoop up flowers and give them to him on Father’s Day.

And you don’t have to stop there! Outside of buying flowers for guys on those days, you can also buy them flowers:

  • On your anniversary
  • To celebrate their big promotion at work
  • Or even just because

Once you start buying flowers for guys, you’ll see why so many men have been buying flowers for women all these years. They’re very versatile and can be given for almost any occasion that you can think of without feeling out of place.

They Offer a Wide Range of Options

Buying roses for men is a great idea. You can’t go wrong with a big bouquet of gorgeous roses, regardless of the occasion.

But you shouldn’t feel the need to limit yourself to roses. You can also expand your horizons over time and try giving a man other types of flowers, too.

Some of the best flowers to buy for a man are:

  • Roses
  • Sunflowers
  • Orchids
  • Succulents

You should think about what message you want to send to a man when you give him flowers before picking them out (more on that in a minute!). You should also test out different types of flowers to see which ones he likes best.

They Can Be Used to Convey Certain Messages

Most people are well aware of the message that’s being conveyed when you send red roses for men to a special man in your life. They’re meant to show that you love him in a romantic way.

Red roses are far from the only flowers for guys that can convey a message, though. Almost every flower can be used to express a specific emotion to a man.

Take a look at the meanings behind some of the most popular flowers that are sent to men:

  • Chrysanthemums: Friendship
  • Alstroemeria: Devotion
  • Daisies: Loyalty

We should point out that many men—and many women, for that matter—aren’t aware of the meanings behind all flowers. You might need to explain what certain types of flowers are meant to symbolize to your significant other.

But once he finds out what they mean, he’ll be that much more appreciative of the flowers you gave to him. He’ll love that there is a deeper meaning behind them.

They Brighten Up the Inside of a Home (and Make It Smell Amazing, Too!)

Many women enjoy receiving flowers as gifts because they’re able to use them to improve the look and feel of their homes. There is nothing quite like putting a fresh bouquet of flowers on your kitchen countertop or in the middle of your dining room table.

Fresh flowers will brighten up the inside of a home from the moment they’re set out in a vase. They’ll also make the inside of a home smell so much better than it would otherwise. And you don’t have to be a woman to appreciate these things!

Many men might not think to buy themselves flowers to brighten up the inside of their homes and make them smell better. But when you give them flowers, they’ll enjoy how much better their homes look and feel.

A man will think of you every time he walks by the flowers and sees them. He’ll also think of you when he smells the sweet scent of the flowers in all the different areas of his home. It’ll almost feel like he’s surrounded by your love at all times.

They Won’t Break the Bank

If you’re buying a gift for a man for, say, Valentine’s Day or his birthday, you might not mind spending a little bit of extra money on them. But if you’re buying him a gift for a lesser-known holiday or “just because,” you don’t want to have to worry about going into debt in order to purchase it.

This is another great thing about buying roses for men. While there are some flowers that are pricey, the majority of flowers won’t break the bank when you go to buy them.

The same can’t always be said for other gifts. A small bottle of decent cologne, for instance, can run you up to $150, if not more. It’ll force you to hand over a decent-sized chunk of change for a gift that might not get the kind of reaction that you’re looking for in the end.

They Show How Much You Care

At the end of the day, the purpose of buying a gift for the special guy in your life should be showing him just how much you care about him. That should be your end goal when you begin shopping around for gifts for men in the first place.

Are you going to be able to do that with a bottle of cologne, a shaving kit, or even a nice watch? Probably not.

Most of those gifts are very practical and will get put to good use over time. You could even argue that they’re better gifts because they’ll last longer than flowers will, which will give a man more of a chance to use and enjoy them.

But those gifts aren’t always the most thoughtful options. They’re gifts that people give to men every single day all around the world.

Flowers, on the other hand, are about as thoughtful as it gets, especially when you choose flowers that have some special meaning behind them. They’ll show that you went out on a limb and tried to buy a man something that would truly make him feel loved.

If nothing else, you’re going to get an A+ for effort when you go with flowers for your man over your other gift options. He’s going to feel like you really care about him when he sees the beautiful bouquet you got for him.

They Won’t Soon Be Forgotten

Is the special man in your life going to remember the bottle of cologne you bought for him for his birthday or the shaving kit that you bought for him for Father’s Day in 25 years? Probably not.

By that point, there’s a decent chance that you will have purchased him several bottles of cologne and several shaving kits for the different holidays that you’ll celebrate together. Your gifts will all begin to blend together with most of them forgotten within a few years.

But we promise you that a man will never forget the first time that you give him flowers. Whether you go with roses for men, daisies, orchids, or one of your other options, he’s always going to remember the time that you sent him flowers.

Since most men aren’t used to receiving flowers as gifts (yet!), your decision to buy flowers for him is going to stand out. Long after the flowers have withered away, the thought of you giving them to him as a gift will still stand out in his memory.

Buy Roses for Men and See What a Great Reaction They Get

People have been giving other people flowers as gifts for centuries now. There is some evidence that suggests that people have been doing it since ancient times.

For most of history, it has been men giving flowers to women. That has slowly turned into the standard and a social norm that people have come to expect.

But you shouldn’t let that deter you from giving flowers to guys if you want to do it. There are roses for men that you can buy for the special man in your life as well as a wide range of other flowers that would be great for almost any man.

Why not explore the idea of sending guys flowers the next time you’re looking for a gift for your husband or boyfriend? You might be surprised by what a great reaction that you get when you decide to do it.
